Partners-In-Art is a PTA-funded art appreciation program that has been educating Hillcrest students for over fifteen years, and in that time our volunteers, past and present, have put together one of the best art appreciation programs in the district. What started out as an adjunct to the Art Volunteers in the Classroom seminars at The Art Institute of Chicago, has grown to a program that has 25 volunteers who do over 120 presentations in a school year. Our presentations usually last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and we present to each class 6 times a year. Most of our prints, which are hanging in the gallery outside of the Hillcrest Gym, are in the collection of The Art Institute of Chicago but we have also added works of art outside of the AIC collection to give the kids a well-rounded art education. When we can, we try to incorporate the classroom curriculum but we always aim to make it fun for the kids with great hands-on projects that coincide with the artwork being presented. If you would like to be a volunteer for this enriching program at Hillcrest, please feel free to contact Maria Brummel. No experience required just a passion for art.
