2025 Reading Club Dates: January 27 – March 23

Hillcrest PTA helps coordinate participation in the Cougars Reading Club, an optional reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team.

Your child will have the opportunity to improve their reading skills while earning a free ticket to a Cougars game, enjoying a free hot dog and drink at the game, and participating in a parade on the field before the game!

WHEN: January 27 through March 23

WHAT: An 8-week reading program divided into 4 two-week segments, with each segment representing a base on a baseball diamond (First Base, Second Base, Third Base, Home). When a student completes a segment, they will “advance” to the next base. By the end of the reading program, they will have “hit a home run” through reading!

HOW: Read 180 minutes (3 hours total) over the course of each two-week segment. How your student divides up the time to meet this goal is up to them (for example, 18 minutes of reading Monday-Friday, or 13 minutes of reading daily, etc.)

RECORD YOUR PROGRESS: Fill out this Google Form to verify that your student has completed the reading required. You can choose to submit this form every 2 weeks throughout the program at the completion of each “base,” or you can submit the form at the end of the 8-week program and click the checkboxes for all four bases.

REWARDS:  After submitting the Google Form, your student will earn a voucher for a free ticket to of two Cougars baseball games (Saturday, May 10 or Saturday, May 17 at 6:30 pm) along with a coupon for a free hot dog and soft drink at the game. Students will also be invited to participate in a pre-game parade on the baseball field! Families will have an opportunity to purchase additional tickets to attend the game with their student.

KEY DATES:

Jan. 27: Cougars Reading Program begins
March 23: Cougars Reading Program ends. Make sure your Google Forms are submitted by this date!
May 10: Kane County Cougars Game (Option #1)
May 17: Kane County Cougars Game (Option #2)
